What if I filed 1040NR instead of 1040NR-EZ?
I'm an F-1 Visa student on OPT (this is first year of OPT)
I wasn't sure for my Federal returns whether to use 1040NR or 1040NR-EZ.
But, I already filed 1040NR-EZ while doing a standard deduction (Page 3,4 are blank)
And I filed my 8843 and my W2s
Should I amend it and re-file a 1040NR-EZ? Or is it okay?

I assume you are from India, since that is the ONLY country where the tax treaty allows F-1 students to claim the $6,350 standard deduction.

If that is the case, and you identified yourself as an Indian student on the F-1 visa on Form 8843, then the Form 1040NR-EZ is fine.

Filed 1040 Instead of 1040NR [ 1 Answers ]

I'm an international student from Morocco and I made a mistake while filing for my taxes. I'm on an F1 Visa and I should have used 1040NR instead of turbo tax. Hello, I am in a dilemma and I will really appreciate your help. I am a student/f-1 visa holder (non-resident alien). Last week I used an online website (File my taxes for FREE! with FreeTaxUSA) to file tax returns and realized that the website used Form 1040, and PA-40 - 2007 (for...

Filed 1040 in 2005 instead of 1040NR: Which form should be filed for 2006? [ 7 Answers ]

Hi, I came to the US in Fall 04 and since then have been continuously on an F-1 student visa. I filed form 1040NR-EZ for 2004, but for 2005 I hired a CPA who (without informing me) filed a 1040 on my behalf. In there, he claimed an education credit (or something to that effect) which effectively...
