    With part-way cataracts, I'm partial to short stories these days.

    Desert Teacher, by Arjun Singh. Nonfiction about living and teaching in a dry and rural part of northern India.
    Partly Cloudy Patriot, by Anne Vowel. Funny non fiction.

    Western: Sackett by Louis L'Amour
    Essays: Arguably by Christopher Hitchens
    History: Killing Lincoln by Bill O'reillyBiography: Robert A. Heinlein by William H. Patterson

    Each of these will lead you to six months worth of reading pleasure, either as part of a series or as an introduction to an author.
