Water feed to Ice Maker is frozen
My ice maker quit making ice. Water is getting to the fridge, icemaker on, couldn't figure it out. Then I noticed there was an "icycle" sticking out from the tube feeding the icemaker. Its frozen. I don't want to turn the freezer off. Any suggestions? Thanks!

    Froze
    Hi,
You can get a wash rag, soak it in hot water, wring it out a little, then press the rag against, or wrap it around, the place that is frozen.
Keep doing it until it thaws out, shouldn't take but a few minutes. You don't have to turn off the freezer.
Then, look to see if its leaking after it completely thaws out.
I do wish you the best.

    Hi Donna,

Fred gave you a excellent solution for thawing out the water supply to the ice maker but he really put his finger on the cause when he said, "Then, look to see if its leaking after it completely thaws out"
Your Ice maker has a electromagnetic valve that controls the amount of water that's metered into the ice maker. If a piece of crud or trash got caught in the seat of the valve allowing even a wee bit of water to seep through then you'll have the same probem every time water's metered out to the ice maker. If that's the case and you see water forming in the tube the ice maker should be pulled and the inlet tube backwashed or the valves seat should be cleared. Good luck, Tom

Same problem - I think. Ice maker stopped working. I found the water line (upper right) tube was frozen. I wrapped a hot towel around it for 10 minutes and that worked. Now I can hear water filling the ice maker, but still no ice - after 10 hours...
If I need to pull the ice maker - what's the best way. I assume I'll need to shut off the water line first. Pretty easy job?

    Good morning JP,

If water entered the ice tray, after ten hours there should be ice in the tray. If it's not ejecting the ice then you have more problems then just a frozen inlet. We have a new expert,(Appiguy) over in Appliances that's much sharper then I am on the subject. While a plumber will install appliances such as dishwashers, ice makers, water softeners etc. We do not service or repair them. I suggest you take your problem and post it in the Appliance Page where Appliguy will have you back in business in no time flat. Good luck, Tom

I just solved the same problem, but I used a ziplock with hot water in it. I too was clogged. I removed a lot of ice from the feed tube and then a plug of ice from the wall. When I did a small amount of water came out but stopped flowing right away. So I am pretty sure I got it all.

    Thanks

Hello, I had the same problem with a brand new Whirlpool and I tried the warm towel remedy but found it to be time consuming, so... I used a hair dryer and placed it right on the area that was frozen. This took about 5 minutes and it worked like a charm. The ice maker was making ice and working properly after about 35-40 minutes.
