Honda accord won't start after damp rain - help
After very heavy rain my 1999 honda accord won't start in the mornings. The car starter and ignition turns over no problem but the engine won't fire. I can hear it spluttering and shaking till it catches. Had this problem in the spring and I changed the HT leads and spark plugs and car ran OK but the problem has come back this winter. If I pump the gas peddle when starting the engine doesn't like it and it cuts. Seems to catch better if I lay off the gas peddle. But I can get to work leave the car for eight hours and it starts okay, its only a morning thing in very wet weather. Any advise on what to fix.

I would begin by replacing the distributor cap and rotor. These should be changed every 60,000 miles. If you want to save the money, remove the distributor cap, spray with WD-40, and wipe it thoroughly dry. Moisture and carbon tracking can become major problems over time. When you start modern-day cars, you don't touch the gas pedal--there's no need to set an automatic choke, like on old cars. You don't want to send conflicting signals to the computer. It's good practice to spray the distributor cap and spark plug wires with silicone spray, to prevent surface moisture from shorting out the secondary voltage circuit. Keep spark plugs, spark plug wires, and distributor cap clean.

If the steps above don't solve the problem, read sections A and B, in the link below:

Be sure and run the Check Engine Light tests and the K-Test to verify that your ECM (computer) is okay. If it is, then I would replace the Ignition Control Module (igniter) and coil in the distributor.

Excellent advice. Had this exact problem over winter. Changed the sparks and worked well for a while. Then the car just refused to start at all if it was wet overnight. I cleaned up the leads and cap externally. Started the engine and sprayed some wa
