rabies

My dog has an auto immune disorder my vet has suggested no more vaccinations except for rabies. Her disorder is very rare and I am worried if we get the rabie shot that her health will be at jeopardy. She is 5 years old and has been vaccinated until she was 3. Is the rabie shot mandatory I live in Pa, and if so can we fight it.

Rabies vaccinations for pets are probably mandated by law in every state of the union. When your veterinarian who cares for your dog and his license advises you, it's probably to protect one or the other or both of these things, and probably good advice to follow, or get a second opinion to (probably) confirm it.
Anyhow, for a more direct answer, I went to:

http://www.google.com/

where I typed in "pennsylvania general assembly" - those are the men and women you elected when you voted last year on that November Tuesday to create the "General Statutes" or "Municipal Code" (as it is called in PA). I clicked on the link to:

http://www.legis.state.pa.us/

I clicked on the link to "Rules and Regulations (PA Code)"

And was treated to a nice rendition of the State Seal of Pennsylvania. I clicked on the word "Search" to its left and typed in "rabies" next to the "Full text" box.

I read sections 16.41, 16.42, 16.43, 16.44, 16.45, and 16.63. I believe that the reason your vet made the exception with rabies was either in the best interests of your pet, his license or both, and an indication that he wasn't of a mind to give you a note. I really don't think any veterinarian would advise you to do something to harm your dog in any way. I certainly wouldn't. How would you feel if your dog contracted rabies by virtue of your negligence and bit and harmed or killed your neighbor's child? According to the PA Code section 16.43 (3), and depending on the type of vaccination it last received, you may be in violation of the law now.

You have not responded in quite some time. I am curious to know whether you have decided to leave yourself open to legal action and the general public susceptible to harm resulting from your negligence or that you have decided to follow your veterinarian's advice and get your animal vaccinated against rabies. I hope you have chosen the latter.

To answer your question, I was NOT by any means implying I would not vacinate my dog. My question for you was and maybe I did not state this clearly. How long does the vacine remain in my dogs bloodstream? NOT that I would put anyone in danger especially a child. What my decision will be is of no concern of yours. The reason I went to this site was for information and research so I could make a educated decision without putting my dog or someone else in danger. The information you provided was information I already knew. I did NOT come to this site to be chasitied but for information on an alternative treatment. This will be the last time I use this site and I would apprectiate no response from you. Hopefully, IF you are a Vet someone is depending on for educated information and options that you indeed do so without judgement.

Had you visited the sites to which I directed you to, you would find that there are two vaccines: a 1-year vaccine and a 3-year vaccine. If the last vaccine recieved was a one-year version, then according to your own admission above "She is 5 years old and has been vaccinated until she was 3." that puts her one year overdue and in violation of the law, your civic duty, and puts you in direct jeopardy for any "mishaps" that may occur as a result. On the other hand , had it been a three-year vaccination, you're good till she's 6 years old. I do hope that you will not allow my directness or candor drive you from this site - it is really a very good place to get information, IF you are wiling to accept it. Please research your last vaccination, I sincerely hope it is of the three-year version.

Please understand my position: I am surrounded by neighbors who care so little for their prisoners..I mean PETS that they allow them to roam at large having neither proper registrations, vaccinations or care for what harm their animals may inflict on their neighbors' property, persons, or peace of mind. These animals have attacked myself on MY property, and my (then) 76-year-old grandmother - again on MY property before authorities were bothered enough to act. Turns out my neighbors are drug dealers. Kind of explains my attitude toward apparent negligence in the care of one's pets, I hope.

I did give you all the information you needed, though, and do most sincerely hope you will not abandon this site because of my directness. I shall certainly respond differently should such matter not "hit so close to home" for me

best regards,
Fianchetto

Please check out which vaccine your (obviously beloved) pet recieved, and update if necessary.

shelleyashcroft disagrees: This person is my opinion is not balanced. This person calls pets prisoners. You should really check into this persons behavior when responding to people on this site. I will not use this site for information again
Tuscany disagrees: Although your first post was full of helpful advice. This one takes an attacking tone. It is not the posters fault that your neighbors do not take proper care of their pets. She is looking for information. You should have stopped at the first post.

You have the right to your opinion, though I disagree. I think myself to be quite well-balanced, having a chip on both shouders and the stability to make the next post in this thread to a moderator, hopefully to get this thing resolved - I really don't want you to "go away mad".

I referred to my neighbors' pets (not yours, or anyone else's) as "prisoners", because that's how they treat them, releasing them only to attack myself and my family. They are DRUG DEALERS. They are neither competent nor capable of caring properly for themselves, much less any animals in their custody.

Please, again do not allow your misunderstanding of me drive you from this site. It is a tremendous resource. If you read the answer beyond the point where you might disagree.

I sent the following message to a moderator for this site - a Catholic Priest. I am a protestant, myself, and hope that you will be as willing as I am to hear what he has to say.

She posed this question, didn't like my admittedly direct response, gave me negative feedback, and claims she doesn't wish to use this site. I don't wish for her to "go away mad" because she disagrees with me or my directness. Can you help salvage this little mess we seem to have gotten ourselves into?

Thank you, Father,
Fianchetto
