Unable to Print & Open Files in Word 2007
    Hi,

I installed novaPDF Lite 7 and tried converting a word file to pdf. It did'nt work but since then I have been facing issues with printing word documents through my laser printer.

    1) The 'Print' dialog does not open on pressing Ctrl+P and when i do a quick print i get the following error message attached 1st.

Whereas, I am able to open the 'Print' dialog box in other office applications and print documents.

    2) When I try opening any word file from Start Menu>Recent Documents, I am getting the error message attached as 2nd.

    3) Also, am unable to open any word file by browsing through the folders. Only way I can open a word file is through start menu of Word

    4) And for some reasons system restore is also not able to restore to any date prior to the installation.

    Have done the following so far;
    i) Checked my default printer settings.
    ii) Have uninstalled novaPDF.
iii) Have tried uninstalling & re-installing Office 2007, but no luck.

assist me in re-solving this issue.

When you have no valid restore point in your computer it means that whatever program you installed basically wiped out any restore point. Now that is obvious. But what is not obvious is the fact thatyou will have to totally reprogram your computer using your O/S discs. I would suggest that you save your information on an external hard drive if you can. Save everything you want.

If you do not feel comfortable doing this saving stuff yourself you will have to take your computer tower to a computer geek and have them save everything for you that they can off your machine and then reprogram using your O/S discs.

I have learned a long time ago that if I want anything I save it to my external hard drive as I've had my computer get nasty viruses or have loaded a program such asyou did and had my computer act naughty. I was not able to sometimes save anything as the files were essentially locked. Sometimes I could just move the files off the computer to the external hard drive - sometimes I could not as the files were too corrupted.

Either way I hate the be the bearer of bad news but you will have to do a total reprogram in order to get your machine back to where it was previously.

Maybe someone else can come along and give you some sort of "magic fix" to fix the files but I, for one, have been where you are now and found the only way out was to reprogram the machine and lose eveything.

Look into buying an external hard drive. They cost less than $100 for a lot of GB.

What is you default printer? It may be set to the PDF writer. That's what I normally set as my default printer. I have both a laser and an inkjet.

Thanks twinkiedooter & KeepItSimpleStupid for replying.

@ twinkiedooter: What you are suggesting is the last resort but since its just that novaPDF printer drivers have messed up with the printer settings in Word, I still hope there is a solution to this without the whole effort of re-programming.

@ KeepItSimpleStupid: Yes as stated earlier, have checked my default printer settings from the control panel.

Also, another problem/ issue I just noticed with Word is that am also unable to use paste function by pressing Ctrl+V.

    Have further done the following troubleshooting, but no luck still;
    i) Have uninstalled & re-installed my laser printer.
ii) Have tried repairing Office from control panel.

I'm going to assume that you have a non-pirated installation of Office 2007. I would try this:
    - uninstall NovaPDF
    - uninstall Office 2007
    - install and run CCleaner, use the Registry cleaning feature
    - reboot
    - before you reinstall Office make sure your printer works correctly (can you print a web page or from Notepad?)
    - reinstall Office
    - try using CutePDF - Create PDF for free, Free PDF Utilities, Save PDF Forms, Edit PDF easily. as your PDF writer, it has worked for me for years
    - keep your default printer as your laser printer, make that change if needed

    Goof luck!

NK- I knew you'd come along and correct me if I was wrong. :):):)

My typical solution is just to totally reformat and start all over again. That works for me.

Not everyone is diligent like yourself and saves their data on an external hard drive. Most people would lose tons of valuable data on a complete reinstall.

I had used CCleaner earlier when I had uninstalled & re-installed Office but no luck. :(
Also, I searched registry manually for all novaPDF entires & deleted them, but again no luck.

    An observation:
When I uninstalled & re-installed Office 2007, all my Quick Access Toolbar Settings & other Word Settings came back intact even though I used CCleaner to delete registry of the uninstalled version of Office. Also, all my recently opened documents were there in Word. Similarly, the printer settings & other settings related to print would have also been there & came back with fresh installation.

When I searched through registry, I found entries related to earlier versions of Office still there in registry such as Office 8.0, Office 10.0, Office 11.0.

Now should I uninstall Office & search manually for all office related registry entries & delete them prior to re-installation. But for this I would surely need some assistance to delete the entries.

Used Microsoft Fix it (How do I uninstall the 2007 Office suites if I cannot uninstall it by using the "Add or Remove Programs" feature?) to remove Office 2007. After it finished used CCleaner to cleanup registry. But still the same issue; all settings reverted back, even the list of recent documents.
