Corrupt word files

I have a Word file saved to a USB drive. I have had it there for years without problems. Recently because I have new computer coming, I saved some programs downloaded from the net to that USB drive so they can be reinstalled but now when I try to open the Word file I get the message "Word cannot start the converter mswrd632" and the file open as scrambled eggs

The file is very important to me and yes I stupidly did not make a back up

MS Word program operates on file for all ofher Word files on the hard drive without a problem

I have tried everything that I know but nothing I do can open the file uncorrupted

I ran into a such problem some times, but I has not always been able to solve it. Some time ago, stumbled on a program that could help here by using different capabilities - repair corrupt word 2007 document.

The problem was with a corrupt file doc. After rebooting, the file is not opened, used the recovery for word online.
