Spotting and Neg HPT, I'm desperate
I am 18 years old (almost 19 in feb) and on New Year's, my boyfriend and I (we have been dating for 3 1/2 years by the way) had sex twice, but we used a condom. My period is always about a week or two late because I am always stressed, but I haven't had it since a little bit before Thanksgiving. I finally thought I got it on the 17 of Jan, but it was more of a brown spotting. However, there was still some blood in it though. I maybe thought it was just a SUPER light period, but I normally have a very heavy flow. Anyway, I took an HPT on the 22nd and it came out negative, but on the 287th I still had a TINY bit of brown spotting.

So to describe the"spotting or period" it was brownish pink, then mid way through it seemed bloodier and if I used a reg tampon there was a mixture of blood and brown. Mind you, I have NEVER had to use reg tampons!

Now today, my lower abdomen SIDES are hurting and cramping, kind of above the hip bone. I have no symptoms of pregnacey. No sore boobs or anything

Please, any feed back? Assuming I am not pregnant, does this mean anything or maybe I'm just SUPER stressed? (im a student at a prestigious university. Enough said)

Stress does indeed affect our menstrual cycles. Are you normal weight? Have you been dieting or not eating because you are stressed out? These can all affect the cycle. The cramping could be a sign of your body beginning your period or ovulating. Sometimes we do spot at odd times of the month or don't get our periods if we are placed under an enormous amount of stress, are dieting, or not eating correctly.

If you have taken the home pregnancy test and it is negative, it doesn't sound like you have anything to worry about. But, I am sure that you have access to medical care at your university. Please make an appointment at the gynecologists office this week and have them check you out. It is important for you to know that everything is working as it should so you can "decon-stress" and get back to your studies. :-)

I am 5'5" and 165 lbs. A little chunky, I know, but not extremely. I get pretty regular exercise, I go to the gym and I eat pretty OK, salads, sandwhiches, chicken, vegetabes.. stuff like that..

I am thinking about making a doctors appointment. Thank you for the advice. If anyone has any more advice I would still appreciate it :)

It sounds like you are choosing the right foods to eat.

It definitely sounds like it is stress related. Have you been worrying about getting pregnant? I noticed from your tagname that you definitely have a problem with school. If you are under a lot of stress with studies that really can affect your cycle.

Please don't just think about make a doctors appointment. Please do it. Unless you do, no matter what answer you get here, you still won't be able to relax until you hear from a specialist on what is exactly going on.

The advice you have received so far is very good. I would like to add one thing though.

Make sure you take the HPT first thing in the morning no matter what the directions on the box say. The reason is that hCG (pregnancy hormone) is more concentrated in first morning urine.
