It is painless. The doc inserts an instrument called a speculum, he then takes an small sample from your cervix and send it to the lab to be tested. The test determines if there is cancer, pre-cancer or STDs.

Hi, I had my first smear test last week and it doesnt hurt, its just uncomfortable. What happens is they get you to take your pants off and lie down, they give you a blanket to put over you so you feel more comfortable. Then they put a tube in, open that up abit and put a brush in and a long cotton bud. It doesnt take long to do. It pays to do it as something like that can save your life. It only happens every 3 years. The first one you get you have to have another one after 12months. Hope this has helped you.
