Hi All,
I have 2 beautiful mini doxens/dachshunds who I've managed to keep apart for 3 weeks (I'm exhausted!) I was wondering what my girls 1st sign of pregnancy would be... I m planning to have one litter only, I guess 6 months from now. But in case he got her behind my back, just want to know what to look for! Thank you, Bently, Barbie & Pam

There isn't any sure way to tell for at least a month or maybe longer for such a small dog. By then a vet or other experienced person can feel the puppies. Ultra sound and X-rays are even more reliable. False pregnancies are common and can be quite convincing. Dogs don't do ''quickies''. If they mated, you would have had a good chance to catch them.

I wonder if you have a good reason for one litter. We are slaughtering 10,000,000 dogs a year for lack of homes. Even if you have no problem placing her puppies, that will be that many more homes unavailable to other puppies. Maybe look at it some more. A good place to start is the breeding section at American Kennel Club - akc.org.
