Period every other week

My brothers girlfriend has a period every other week. She is 20. She would like to know what could be causing it. This has been going on for some months now.

I heard of a period per month or even missing periods, but not every other week. I am thinking she needs to go to an ob and get everything checked out. Does not sound normal. Could be an infection or something else that would cause the extra bleeding. Whenever there is extra bleeding seeing a doctor ASAP is a must.
