How long does it take for pap smear results to come back?
I had a pap on August 18th of this year. My last two pap smears have come back abnormal but the gyno says that it's not a big change and he's just going to keep watching it until it either goes away on it's own or turns into dysplasia. It's been exactly 4 weeks since my pap and I haven't received a call from him yet, but last time he made me wait a month and 2 weeks until he called me with my results. I want to call him tomorrow because I'm worried but he almost never answers his phone. I was wondering if one month is long enough for my results to come back?

Your doctor doesn't answer his phone? Does he not have a secretary that does this?
Most times no news is good news. However, in your case, you should be getting an answer either way. If he doesn't answer his phone how about a drive to his office for the results.

Usually an answering machine picks up. He works out of a clinic and his "secretary"(I don't know what you would call her) is always going into the room with him and the patients so no one really answers the phone, he is also not there everyday of the week so I guess that's another reason why he rarely answers the phone. I was considering going in for the results because I'm really worried about it. The last two times I went in he told me my cervix looked fine but the results were showing a little bit abnormal and the last time I went he told me it looked normal but he said that the last two times so I won't feel OK until I get the results. I thought a month would be long enough for results but last time he had me wait a month and 2 weeks so I don't know if a month is long enough..

How do people make appointments if there is no-one there to answer the phone?
Go down there like J_9 said and find out.
Good luck.

Sounds like a pretty shady practice. I'd be finding a new doctor if I were the patient.

Well I was referred to him by my doctor three and a half years ago when I had my first abnormal pap, he's a specialist. He treated me for dysplasia with cyrotherapy and I was going back to him every 6 months for two years and all my results were normal until September 2008, so now I've been going back every six months as he "follows" it I guess. I was considering going to another specialist but he knows all my history so I thought it was best to stay with him. The only thing that I don't like about him is that he takes so long to tell me my results... shouldn't my results have come back by now?

Yes, your results should be back by now. At my clinic, it takes about ten days. Call him or go down there and ask for the results. Good luck... if he can't locate the results, it might be time to find another specialist. It's stressful waiting and wondering...

Yes it is very stressful, I'm worrying so much that it's effecting my sleep and my appetite. I called and there was no answer so I'm going to continue calling and hopefully I can get a hold of him, if I can't then I think I'll go down there tomorrow or Thursday. Thank you.

I need some input about this. I never of this, I was told this by my sister. She went to the clinic to get a routine pap. A few days or week later she received a letter in the mail for her to come in to take two or three large pills to get rid of an infection she has. That her partner was to...
