    Depo provera?
It is said that depo provera is effective 24 hours after the shot is giving and the shot is usually giving on or a few days after the menstral cycle starts. Is it still effective within 24 hours if I got it two days after the end of my period?

It should be, but I don't particularly trust the shot, it's got some weird side effects andi t's not be tested enough to suit my taste haha.

It is still recommended that you use a backup method of birth control for one month after getting the shot.

As for the side effects, they are different for everyone. I was on depo for 3 years and loved it.

It's true, the shot is considered safe by the FDA, some women love it, but do your homework before jumping into anything because I have heard bad things and good things. And like J_9 said, better safe than sorry!

Okay, the bad and the good of it.

Some women gain weight while other lose

Break through bleeding for the first few months

Some women bleed the whole time they are on it, yet others never get a period.

It takes a while (up to 18 months) to get pregnant after discontinuing the shot.

It is an individual decision made between a woman and her doctor as every woman experiences different side effects.

Personally, for those women who can tolerate it, and are not planning on becoming pregnant in the next few years, it is a wonderful form of birth control. I like to call it mindless birth control because you don't have to remember to take it every day as you do the pill. Most doctors or clinics will even mail you a letter a few weeks before you are due for a shot.

And remember it must be given every 12 weeks NOT 3 months, there is a difference.

Julia1015 disagrees: If the first injection is given during your period then no backup method is recommended
This may very well be true where you are working. However, in the local health department where I have had my clinicals this semester they do indeed advise using backup for the first month. While I have heard what you say is correct, I was also instructed that it is a matter of preference and protection by the health care team.

You see, not every girl comes in during her period, and not every girl will be honest and say that she is in fact on her period.

No, It is medically based, I said that it should be, which it says it shouldbe. And I said that /I/ keyword : I, do not trust it, and later I encouraged her to just do her homework.

I wish they'd take away rating with red and greenfrom the n00bs again. -sigh-.

Better safe than sorry, anyone who doesn't say to use a backup methodis telling you to gamble with your health and safety and is irresponsible.
