USB modem air card

Looking for info on getting a USB air card that I can use with my desktop at 2 different homes in 2 different states. Do I need a "router" along with the AIR CARD?

Hello,

The "air card" is simply a cellular modem. If you are using it with one computer at a time, there is no need for a router. You need to look into roaming fees for the usage and also the usage cap on the usb broadband modem. Since it is cellular, most companies limit usage and charge roaming if you are out of your home area.

Good luck

Just FYI. Chck out Cyberguys.com - Computer Parts, Cables and Accessories. Hard to Find Computer Parts for Aircard compatable routers. They could be more useful than just an Aircard especially when you want to print to a Network printer.

When I think of an Aircard, I usually think of an item that fits into the PC card or PCMIA slot of the computer.

If USB tethering is an option, then an Aircard would not be required ad you can use your cell phone at the same time. The USB connection charges your cell phone at the same time too. If other people use the computer, then this is not an option.
