By connecting it to your cable or DSL modem, usually through an Ethernet cable.

Connect the ethernet from your modem into the WAN connection on your router, usually separated from the 4 other connections and indicated with a different color border around the connection.

You might have to power cycle your modem after connecting it to the router. To do this just unplug the power to your modem for about a minute then plug it back in.
