Since a DTV to analog converter would need to contain a small special purpose computer, it most certainly would require electrical power. Such power wouldn't normally be available through the connection to the TV. The issue would be weather the digital TV converter's design called for converting the AC to DC in an external adapter/transformer (some call them "wall warts") that comes with the converter or inside the converter box itself. IF the "wall wart" produces 12 volts you might be able to fabricate an fused adapter cable to connect it to an automobile's system (carefully verify the proper polarity!). You might need to purchase a DC to AC inverter though. If you don't see the inverters at your local electronics retailer check notebook computer dealers and RV dealers.

    rondal2:

When people read "dtv converter" as the title of this thread they probably won't realize that an inquiry about eastern hemisphere satellite reception has been added to it. The United States is in the process of a transition from analog to digital signal formats for the ground (transmission tower) to ground television services that became available in black and white form a few years after the end of World War II (long before home satellite TV reception became available). The US government is using the proceeds from an RV spectrum licensing auction to subsidize the purchase of consumer equipment that will allow the older TVs to display the new ground to ground digital signal formats, thus DTV (Digital TeleVision) converter.

Only questions that haven't been answered yet appear in the "Unanswered Questions" list where I found this one. Now that it has been answered this thread will be only seen in a topic list for wireless computer networking questions, where people knowledgeable about satellite TV might not be looking.

Your inquiry would probably gain more attention as a new question in the Arts and Leisure/Television section. I would suggest indication about the possibility you might enjoy French language programming (many citizens in some regions of Canada prefer French) or programming intended for the United Kingdom.
