Almost ready to go

I have bought a Linksys Wireless Adapter to connect to my computer via USB cable. I bought it on eBay, so it didn't come with directions or a CD, but I am not sure if a CD is necessary. I need some help getting connected. Can anyone help me?

The USB cable I bought had a plastic casing that was to big to fit into the adapter. All I did was shave some of it of so it would fit. It was the adapters design that was to blame. The adapter was was on before, but that was because power was drawn from the tip. I tested this theory on the side that was plugged into my computer. I pulled it halfway out and the adapter light remained on.
