Is the USB port connected to a USB hub of some kind? If so, do not use the USB hub. Connect directly to a motherboard USB port.

Is the USB pen drive a dongle that is used for allowing software access? If it is just for data transfer, then put the drive in your computer and share it out so that the server can access the data on it. You may have a hardware issue with the USB port on the server or there may be a USB hardware version conflict (1.x to 2.0). You may not have USB legacy support enabled on the motherboard if this is required for older memory sticks.
