Unable to reinstall Windows XP

I have a problem with my desktop PC. I am unable to go into Windows, I am unable to use Dell imaging restore so as a last resort I have tried to reinstall windows from the cd. I can boot from the CD and it goes to the screen where you can choose to reinstall or repair. I press enter to reinstall and it starts the process but when I get to the Licence Agree or Decline screen I press F8 and I get the same blue screen error I had when trying to repair. I have already run all the diagnostics recommended by Dell to determine if the harddrive or other is failing but they all pass. Can anyone advise me what to do next as I have a 'dead' computer at the moment.

Are you being prompted to enter your Windows XP product key?

Is your copy of XP authentic?

Also, are you checking YES to agree to both the license agreements, sometimes you have one for the Windows license and one for the computer manufacturer.

I'm not familiar with an F8 option to authorize on the license screen.

Hello,
Yes my XP is authentic and I do not get to the Product Key screen. This is a Dell pc so perhaps they do it different? The F8 key is what I am told to press to accept the licence terms.
