RTVSCAN and SVCHOST are using 100% of CPU usage how can we stop this process so that the computer works fine.

RTVSCAN belongs to the Symantec Internet Security Suite and the easiest way to deactiviate completely is to temporarly deinstall the whole Symantec product. Symantec has a way of using a lot of resources so that might be you problem. To kill the svchots.exe is a different story since its a system process. In XP there should be 4 to 5 active svchosts.exe in the taskmanager. Some viruses can call themselves that too. But try uninstalling the Symantec and see if that brings you any better results

There are a few things you can do to resolve this problem.

What are the Specs for your PC?
(make & model and amount of RAM installed would be helpful)

you should lower RTVSCAN usage of your CPU. to do this hit Ctrl.+ Alt. +Del.
goto the process tab, find RTVSCAN, right-click on it, go down to
Set Priority, and left-click on LOW.(this should stop it from using all your CPU while you get this under control.)

Do you have anti-spyware apps installed?

download those update them & then reboot your PC into safe-mode by tapping the F-8 key when your computer starts after Post.
Run full scans with each, remove everything, they find.

What also might be happening, if you have no spyware, is that your OS is being forced to use a page-file on your Hard drive,if you have a minimal amount of RAM installed.
This causes the hard drive to run constantly, which only fragments your files faster, causing performance issues, . A Memory(RAM) upgrade is the fastest way to improve any PC's OS performance. For WinXP I feel 256MB is not enough. 512MB runs it better & 1GB of ram or more makes it run at peak performance.

What version of NIS(Norton Internet Security) are you using, does your PC cover the recommended specs for this application?

u boot u r system with safe mode . copy this file same place .that path neme c:\windows\system32\svchost.exe . first rename u r previos file copy new file and restart

I USED ONE OF THE PROGRAMS SUGGESTED ABOVE, THEY DIDNT WORK BUT ONE OF THEM SUGGESTED THIS:

CLICK START RUN AND TYPE services.msc

I DID THIS AND I FIND IN THE LIST SYMANTEC ANTIVIRUS, I RIGHT CLICKED ON IT AN CLICKED ON STOP.

NOW EVERYTIME RTVSCAN.EXE RUN I DO THIS AND KILL THE PROCESS

i tried running services.msc, and i right clicked, properties, and disabled the process. it works on my SP3 XP. and the next time i start my PC, it's OFF FINALLY.... now my PC can run fast and i'm chilled....

Do not stop service from Services.msc as it may open your machine to viruses. Just restart service to resolve the problem
