What are the necessary steps for me to do in order to format my pc?

(i know i wrote reboot, but i just realize its real meaning .. sorry)

A reboot is basically turning the power off and on again

Now I'm sure that isn't what you had in mind, I think what you ment was reinstall or rebuild, ie wipe it clean and start over.
I'm I on the right track here ?

yea, my bad after i posted i realized that i wasnt using the right word . yess thats what i want to do. We have windows xp and my pc is a Compaq presario pentium 4. I dont have a repair disk or what ever you call it.. unfortunetly .. so .......

Well if you don't have a Compaq system restore disc how where you thinking or reinstall XP ?

no .. so technically i really need a bootleg or an original Xp cd? or else my plan isnt going any where .. right?

A bootleg CD will NOT be a valid course of action, as soon as you go online to update Micro$oft will disable you install.
Your only course of action is to get a legal XP CD

i see... so all i need is the xp cd right? .. but then how would i re-install the hardware on my pc umm like the burner drive, sound card ...
