NTLDR error message on black screen

The electricity went off and when I turned the computer back on there was a black
screen with "NTLDR is missing" Click any key to restart. I cannot get away from that
screen by Ctrl+ALT+DEL because it brings up "Compaq" symbol and then right back to
the black screen. I have Windows XP and no problem until the power went off today
briefly. HELP!! Carol

that means your bootloaders missing or corrupted (common and annoying problem), but you can fix it by following this guide word for word Simple "ntldr is missing" fix with boot floppy, CD-R, or USB flash

also you could use you xp disk, go to recovery console and type:
bootcfg /rebuild
fixboot
fixmbr
(sometimes works)

but in my opinion its much quicker to whip out your winxp disk, start setup and select repair existing installation when it prompts you

made2last agrees: would you believe that I don't have a WIN XP Disk but I have 6 recovery disks. That's something

they sound like your xp bootdisks, if you boot from one and work through to 6 (i know its long) then you should get option to start recovery console
