Can anyone help. I tried to print something today and got error message - no printers installed. Had a look in the printer folder and here were no printers there. I had 2 networked printers attached to a print server. When I try to add printer I get message 'Operation could not be completed' No other message appears. The folder is completely blank. There used to be several icons, add printer one, two printers, print to file (I think) Microsoft fax and I think one other.

Sounds like your Print Spool service has failed.
You need to go into Services and restart it.

Print spooler is set to automatic but is stopped. It will start but as soon as i open the printer folder it stops again

You need to go into services and do a strart/stop on it and this should help your problem.
Failing that try a system restore to a date where it worked fine as it may of become corrupt.

Sorry to respond so late,hadn't realised here was another suggestion.
I couldn't do any restores as every pointI tried failed. I eventually did a repair install of windows. It took 2 nghtsto get it installed & fully updated but that seems to have done he trick.
