Yes, they are workhorses and reliable. You can turn off the SpeedStep feature if you wish, it's a power saving feature.

IBM Thinkpads have long been held to be the class of the laptops. However, IBM is no longer making them. They have sold the name and some of the technology to Lenovo, a Chinese company. However, I've been to a presentation by Lenovo and I feel their committment to maintaining the brand reputation of the Thinkpads is extensive. So I don't have a concern of the quality of Thinkpads slipping in the future.

Thats great to hear, if the Chinese have anything to do with them I would imagine they will do well. Have had 3 good responses for this question, and yesterday purchased one on Ebay!!
