Had to laugh. How the hell do they expect people to buy Vista next year, when at the MS Vista beta spec site, you get a message saying:

The Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor beta is currently unavailable, please check back soon. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Oh well,I suppose all good bugs need swating.

On a serious note,I also have XP on my " other" pc,and it will run Vista fine, according to the MS specs. But I wont bother for at least a few years.I have more important things to spend my cash on.Plus first editions will be so buggy, you will hear the booms of anguish, and cries of woe for a long time.
My current XP pro machine is:

Motherboard: Asus P5WD2 Premium (955X)
CPU: Intel 3.4Ghz, 800FSB, HT (550)
Memory: TWIN2X1024-5400C4PRO
Video: Abit RX700Pro Radion PCI Express 16x, 128MB
Hard Drive#1: Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 300GB SATA150 (RAID 0)
Hard Drive#2: Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 300GB SATA150 (RAID 0)
Hard Drive#3: Western Digital 320GB IDE WD 7200
Recorder#1: Plextor PX-716SA 16X Dual Layer DVD+-/RW
Recorder#2: HP DVD+-/RW 200J
Case: ThermalTake Shark
PS: ThermalTake Silent Power 480W
Cooler: ThermalTake CL-P0024

Currently overclocked to 4GHz. I ran Vista beta on it for a very short period, ran sluggish, decided to dump it in favor of XP Pro. It seemed slower than my 2.8GHz running XP Pro. I can only imagine how well Vista would run on an 800MHz machine...I bet it would crawl.

At work, I run Mandriva Linux on a 2.8GHz with 1.5GB RAM. Within a VMWARE session I run a guest OS Windows XP Pro. My XP runs very nicely and of course so does my Mandriva Linux.

I too am getting the itch for a new machine and the above is my last Intel machine. My next machine is without a doubt an AMD. I've been purchasing AMD for our servers at work and I kick myself for not having gone the AMD route sooner.

Casey
