    DLL Initialization failure
    Hi,

Quick background... not very computer savvy so bear with me... clicked on windows up date before I logged off my computer and it did its thing then logged me off. Next day when I turned my computer on it said "configuring updates do not shut down"... well I shut it down... I had done that before and when I logged back on in the past everything was fine... well this time it was not. A blue screen appeared with the message

STOP: c0000142 {DLL initialization failed} Intialization of the dynamic link library winsrv failed. The process is terminating abnormally

Help... won't even let me into the "safe mode"

Thanks in advance with any advice!

More background: What's the exact make and model of this computer? Do you have the recovery disks that go with the unit? Do you have a Windows installation CD? What version of Windows is your computer using?

OK... I have a Gateway computer.. I have to check if I have the recovery disc... I imagine I do but I am at work at the moment... the computer came with Windows Vista already installed and I think the disc came with it but will have to check that when I get home too. The computer is only 18 months old at the most.

Good morning.. I have the Gateway Operating Systems disc... it runs MS windows vista home premium 32 bit system and I also have my cable internet/modem disc... Should I reload all that and if so what type of prep is necessary? Luckily not much to lose... some music and a few photos... not to worried about that just want to get it up and running again. Thanks again for any help!

Use the system disc to try a Repair on the operating system. Put the disc in and boot the computer from it, read your options carefully and choose the ones that relate to REPAIR of Vista.

You should be able to repair Vista without touching your music/photo files.

I don't have any installation disk, my OS is Vista, System restore is disabled due to the company's policy and I could log in with networking in safe mode. Is there any way I could manually repair it ?

(I got exactly the same error message with Klyons921's)

    Thanks

I have that same problem. Except I have a Dell Inspiron 1420 and I do have the OS disc. However, when I put it inside nothing happens. I keep getting the same error code and everything.

Your registry is too big, C:\Windows\System32\config\SYSTEM or any other SYSTEM registry file, in my case it was PATH variable of system environment (more than 256Mbytes of text due to wrong Active Directory policy, adding new part of string every reboot)
