CPU Usage @ 100%

Asked Oct 1, 2005, 06:25 PM — 3 Answers
Every time I log onto the Internet, my CPU usage goes from like 2% to 100%. Once the page loads, it dies back down, but then when I click a link and try to load another page it goes back to 100%.

Plus, the Comcast logo spins, then stalls, then spins, then stalls until the page loads. It never used to do this and was lightning fast, and could run 5 or 6 Internet windows at once. Now it can barely run one.

Also, the fan is on constantly, and when I use the Internet, it goes full blast and won't come down until I close out Internet Explorer. Jason

Your best bet would be to scan for adware, spyware, and viruses. That sounds like that's what's slowing down your machine.

If you need help with that, just ask and I would be happy to explain more.

I've run just about everything there is including HiJack This, AdAware, SpyBot, etc. I can post a list of the running processes when I get home.

BTW, my restore points will not restore. I've tried it several times.

Hmm perhaps some of the other experts will have some suggestions, also because I'm not all that sure.
