Compaq laptop Hard Drive wont load windows xp

Hello, I have a Compaq 3015us laptop thats acting up. Upon start up the compaq splash screen comes up as it should then then the computer runs bios and the next screen asks which boot device I would like to use, Hard Drive (C), CD Rom (D) or Floopy Drive (A), and its never done that before. The computer has always loaded windows after bios in the past. After several attempts at start up, which I also remove all power from the laptop (its made a difference sometimes) the computer finally boots up. I'm thinking the hard drive is going, can someone confirm this or is there another problem? Thanks

have you checked your hard disk???

you can do this by right clicking on any partition and then goto tool tab
and then to 'Error Checking' heading click check now button and then check both the check box and click ok
