Can't Get Past "Password "Login" Message.

Hi I have been given a Compac notebook from a friend who hasn't used it in a few years.

The problem I have is that I turn it on but I get the "Password Login" message.... and of course the password has been long forgotten....

I inserted a windows 2000 disk which it appears but still persists in asking for the password login.....

Is there anything I can do to reset this.

Thank you very much...

Sandy

Since this is a well respected site, I'd say no. Setting the boot order and booting from a CD and re-installing the OS will be the best answer you'll get here.

Do you mean a password for the BIOS to get it to load windows or a password at the windows logon? If they created a second account to use and password protected that account and left the Administrator account without a password then you could just log into that account and delete the protected account and create a new user account. If they password protected the admin account or are using the admin account or disabled it or whatever reason you can't get into it then you can use a tool called NTFS password reset which is a linux based tool (google it) and it will blank out the passwords.
