QUESTION: I have a folder that I need to delete that is stopping any registry scan or Nortons Windows scan. The folder is a left over folder from a program that was uninstalled and for some reason, when the program was uninstalled, it didn't remove all of the folders associated with the LINKSYS program. I have reinstalled the program which is Linksys Advisor and uninstalled it again hoping that it would catch the unwanted folder. Didn't work.
When I go into explore, and try to delete manually, I get the message that "Cannot delete..Folder is not empty" When I try to expand the folder, there is not anything there. Properties on the folder say read only. Have unchecked it and still won't delete. Have rebooted in safe mode and same results. Tried Advanced Uninstaller Pro but it doesn't give the option for a certain folder..only unstalls programs. Any suggestions?

2 things you can try here

Download and run unlocker, this will add an Unlocker to your right click menu
-you would right click on the folder and choose Unlocker and then choose Unlock All

Now you should be able to delete the folder

If that would not work, boot into safe mode and try to delete there and if still no go, use unlocker option in safe mode and try again

Above method(s) should get rid of that folder

Been there done all of that. I thought unlocker would do it and it says object deleted, but it isn't deleted.

Are you still using the router?

If not, see if there is still a driver or something related to linksys in device mgr and uninstall the driver.

If still using, would try to install again and run below

Once uninstalled with above, use a registry cleaner/optimizer app, if you do not have one,

Once ccleaner run, see if folder still there and then try to delete in safe mode again.

I forget the name of the program, but There is one that shows all processes and handles and dll's loaded into the system. Process Explorer, yeah thats it. You can Open it up, use the search option to find any memory items that are using the folder, and then unload them from memory. That will usually let you delete it. If not I would suggest scanning the registry for any entries related to that program and deleting them, and the going in in knoppix or some form of linux and deleting it that way.

OK! Here is what I have done with no luck. I uninstalled Linksys Advisor using Revo UnInstaller and then booted in Safe Mode. Went to the folder and used unlocker which said Object deleted but it wasn't. I tried to delete manually. Still didn't work. Checked Running applications in Task Manager for any Linksys applications. Nothing. SO then I went to the Folder in Question GTConnect_Main.ink which is a sub folder to Linksys Advisor. It let me move the folder to another Dummy Folder. Now I just had the Linksys Folder and a couple of sub folders. I tried to delete the Linksys Folder and it deleted ok. I then went to the dummy folder and tried to delete the Gtconnect folder. Won't delete. I can copy the folder to another folder and it WILL delete from that folder. I try My Norton's Win Doctor and reg cleaner again and it locks up on that GTconnect folder in the Dummy folder now. It has become a challenge to get rid of this folder. Oh..by the way...Registry Edit will do the reg edit without locking up.

Just noticed something. Somewhere I saw the extension .ink on the Folder. I have never seen a Folder with an extension on it. Only files have extensions. Right? However, the Folder only shows the name GTConnect_Main

can you maybe try to rename the folder in safe mode?

If not using the linksys any longer, see if there is anything in device mgr related to it and if so, uninstall whatever may be in device mgr and try to delete

In regedit (safe mode), try a find for the key GTConnect_Main to see what comes up and delete the key(s) it may be related to

Didn't find anything. I did a registry cleaner and found that one of the errors was:

Invalid shortcut C:/Documents and Settings/Gordon/Local Settings/Application Data/IM/Identities/{C616F634-CD61-4241-9B11-3DBFD34576CF}/Message Store/Attachments/GTConnect_Main.lnk

Note: My "Folder tree" only goes to Application Data and doesn't have the IM Folder. I tried to creat it and create all the rest of the string but it didn't do anything.

Download DSL and use an disk burning program to "Burn Image." Put that in your CD tray and reboot, make sure BIOS options are set to Boot From CD First. When its booted, search for the folder and delete it there.

Reboot in to window's safe mode there. Open Regedit.

Go to edit, and click on find. Type in GTConnect and click ok. Whatever it finds, in the left panel or the right, delete. Do edit, find again. Click "Find Next" again. Repeat until the "Find Next" button brings no more result. Repeat this process for "Linksys Adviser" also. Be careful not to delete anything else, and you may want to back up your registry first. Also, don't use the "Find Next" option under edit; it doesn't always find the next entry you are looking for.
