backup drive

Could you tell me if there is a way to stop half my hard drive from being used for backup by xp. This feature in my opion is usless because twice in the last year when I had a computer problem it wouldn't boot so I had to reinstall by the factory disk and erase everything. Vinny

Re: backup drive

Assuming you are talking about "System Restore":
On the desktop, rightclick "My Computer", click properties, click Performance, then File System.  Then click the hard disk tab, then you should see a slider for "System Restore Disk Space."  Adjust that to the amount you want to be reserved.

If you have some weird backup thing, like HP's next to useless "recovery" partition, then things get a bit more complicated.  Reply if this is what you're stuck with...

hope this helps,

Re: backup drive

Sorry  :-[

They changed it in XP... Sorry

Rightclick My Computer, go to Properties, click the System Restore tab.  Then you will have a slider to change the amount of space used and also a checkbox to turn it off.
Sorry I'd forgotten they'd change it...

You're right about system restore, it is useless if you have a complete crash...the only real way to "system restore" in my opinion, is with a partition imager.
