    Trying to lose belly fat
Hi, I'm 5'7'' and about 191 lbs. I am extremely fine with how I look, but most of my weight is around my waist. I have been going to the gym since October and have seen a slight change in how I look but my stomach is still a bit big. I am slowly losing motivation. My husband also goes to the gym with me, and he seems to be the only one who has made a big improvement and not me. I try to eat healthy as much as I can, but its hard because the neighborhood I live in, there's nothing but fast food and junk. When I go to the gym, I try to run on treadmill for at least 20 min. then I do some weights, crunches, squats, lunges, etc. I feel like there is something I am doing wrong. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get rid of the fat around my belly?

Just keep running. Running is one of the best ways to lose belly fat.

Try to only eat fast food once a week and then to once every other week. It's easy to sabatouse your results with fast food. Sorry about the ms word.

I found some better results with running slower and longer as well as adding more low-fat and fat free dairy. Maybe try jogging at a medium pace for 30-40 minutes a few times a week then doing weights on the off days. Its always great to mix things up for your body it will also keep you from getting bored.

Also keep in mind its hard to spot reduce. For instance no matter what I do I will always big thighs its what genetics decided and nothing short of plastic surgery will take them way.

I think the best way to lose belly fat is to do sit ups before you go to bed, start of with 20 then wrk your way up to 50,60 every night it will soon off your belly!

Just popping in with words of support.

Weights will not generally do anything to reduce belly fat, but will tone the muscles under the fat. Walking and running are the best exercises to reduce belly fat.

And I agree about the man thing. It's so much easier for men to lose weight than it is for women. :(

Have you seen that commercial for Slim Quick? Its two little stick figures one male and one female. The woman takes about how she and her husband did all the same diets and he kept losing weight and she lost none. It always makes me laugh then go HEY that's not fair! :(

Unfortunately, you cannot choose where your body will lose bodyfat. Some areas will always be more stubborn (this is somewhat gender-specific -- for men, it is the midsection, while for women it is the thighs). This is why your arms and face will look leaner before your hips or abs do. Models have to get their bodyfat in the single digits to really see definition in their abs. Doing situps will do nothing for losing bodyfat. Burning bodyfat requires activity -- a lot of it -- plus adopting a healthy diet and lifestyle. Situps and crunches require very little energy because there is little movement involved -- therefore, little to no bodyfat will be burned to do these exercises. To burn bodyfat, you need to do lots of cardio, plus build some muscle. Aside from doing as much cardio as possible (and weight training about 2 - 3 times a week on non-consecutive days), include activity in your lifestyle (i.e. take the stairs, not the elevator -- don't drive, walk). Being fit means having a healthy lifestyle, not just going to the gym more. I've been working as a personal trainer for a long time -- this is the only way. Remember -- you need to do this for the long haul, not just for a few months or until you get your abs the way you want them. Make a lifestyle change. Good luck!

I noticed that some users said that weight training will not burn bodyfat. This is not true. Muscle burns calories in order to be maintained. It stands to reason then that the more muscle you have, the more calories you burn. Building muscle will also raise your metabolism. It IS true that cardio is more important for losing fat, but some resistance/weight training is also necessary. Both will help. For instance, training with weights or machines 2 - 3 x a week, plus cardio whenever possible (at least 3 x a week, plus as much activity outside of the gym as possible).

    One word : callanetics.

Callanetics is the most amazing exercise

You really feel it, it won't hurt your back 20 minutes three times a week will show AMAZING results.

I have stopped doing it because life has been busy lately but my gosh, I wish I didn't stop.

    They are amazing.
It's a exercise tape, Its worth every single penny.
Its amazingly hard at first but with in two weeks you will not only see but feel the difference in you abs and how easy the exercise you couldn't do becomes( if you buy the stomach tape )

They have an hour long tape for beginners , a advanced one ( DO NOT BUY THIS UNTIL YOU HAVE MASTERED IT ) , they have specific area ones such has hips , bums , tums etc.

I know I sound like a salesman but it really is just amazing.

Oh also, sitting in a bad position will give you a belly but I am sure you know what already.

    Hi Sacha,
I try the best that I can to figure out why fat is develop in our body. Our body is like a sponge it absorb the food that we eat. I think the best thing that you can do is change you lifestyle in regards to eating and exercise. Eat more low glycemic and balance food and aviod food that spike your blood sugar that keeps you crave for sweet food. Walking and regular exercise will also help.
    Hope you succeed.

Good excerise plan is great for losing weight around the belly. Change in diet is called for. Cut out everything from your diet that isn't healthy- it may sound mean, but if you are determine to loose the weight it's the best way. e.g.. No fast food, no fried food, no red meat, no candy bars, sweet stuff, ice cream,- eat fresh food daily, fruit and veg. etc.. No alcohol, -
For the last six weeks, I have stayed to this diet plan- but then my symptons or different from you, I had to loose the weight, I am having a stomach operation tomorrow. But I have to say getting the weight down by cutting off favourite foods and taking excerise has done me all the world of good! Good luck to you ! It's a great feeling to be able to buy new clothes that fit!
