You want to lose weight? Lower you calories! Work out with weights and do cardio. If you are going to eat less, you still need to be balanced in your foods. It's all about moderation. Eat quality carbs and lean proteins. Keep your healthy fats such as fish oils, flax oils, olive oils, etc.. a part of your diet too.
I'm 5'9 and currently weigh 225lbs. I'm fairly lean though. I've been upwards of 270lbs and felt awful. I know what it is like to need to lose weight. You can do it if you put your mind to it.
