I have lost weight but gained half of it back

I lost weight 70 pounds but it was because I was really stressed out at the time and really I don't know how it came off, but I was happy that it did.
I tried to keep the weight off by eating better and getting a little more exercises than I normally would but Ive gained almost half of it back and I'm afraid that I'm just going to keep getting bigger until I reach the weight I was at before.
I changed the way I cook to more of a healthy way and limit sweets and junk to one or two times a week like have a bowl of ice cream or 1 piece of cake. Is that whats causing the weight to come back? It's no where near how much I use to eat. I also never exercised, but I am now. I walk for 30 minutes on Saturday and Sunday and try for 15 minute walks during the evenings of weekdays but don't always get to.
I know I'm not supposed to eat sweets but could the ones that I am eating cause this?
Thanks for any advice.

When your body undergoes stress, your metabolism changes to adapt to the what your body is going through. I went through that during my separation and divorce and was glad to lose the weight but sad to see it come back. I thought it was very sneaky for those pounds to come back and haunt me. lol. But they did and it was my fault for not adapting back.

Congratulations on the changes you have made. It is not easy, is it? There are good sweets and not so good sweets. Sugar can be our enemy and is found in so many things. Fats also lurk in many good tasting foods. You could switch to fat free frozen yogurt to replace ice cream. For junk food - something like baked tositos can be a healthy snack. As I have found out, even fat free, while good, is not calorie free. You just have to read labels. Do you like the sugar free, fat free jello?

Are you increasing your intake of fresh fruit and vegetables? Drinking 8-10 glasses of water each day? Are you taking a good multivitamin supplement? How about a B complex supplement (to help ease the sugar cravings and it does good things for your immune system)?

To really make sure you are on the right track, it is always best to consult your doctor. He can work with you on advising the diet and exercise. I truly wish you all the best. Good luck!

Hey Shygerneyz!
Thank you for responding. Yes these changes arent easy. The preparation of the meals and sweet cravings are the worst. I do have a B vitamin complex which I'll sit out and get into the habit of taking.
I do snack on the baked chips also on apple rice crisps and eat cheese cake/ keylime pie flavored yogurt, but I have never tried the fat free/sugar free Jello before or the frozen yogurt. Are you referring to the jello pudding? That could be a good chocolate substitute and I will try it along with the frozen yogurt.
I do eat fresh fruit and veggies. I'll try snacking on them when I'm really wanting cake or something, but I can be full from celery or strawberries and still be hungry for cake. Maybe the B vitamin will help that like you mentioned.
I drink water (not 8 - 10 glasses though) I'm in the bathroom every hour to 30 minutes when I do. Does that ever stop or if you drink that much water thats just how much you go?
I did ask my family doc about a diet, what I should do etc because of how the weight came off and how it started coming back on and he told me to join weight watchers. Hard blow for me because I dont have the extra money for that. It's bad enough that cooking healthier and healthier foods cost more. My weekly grocery bill is around 70 dollars more than what it use to be. I get all of how to cook from internet healthy recipes.
Thank you again for responding.
A.

You are welcome. The sugar free, fat free jello comes in the puddings and in the gelatin too. Weight is just hard to come off but one has to eat otherwise the body goes into the famine mode and that is worse than before. I agree about Weight Watchers, I could not afford that either. Slimfast has an online site and a new program going called "ziip your hunger" that is free. Might want to see if that would help you.

Again, best of all to you. Good luck in your health.

Well you started off really good, but a stress related diet, probabaly like a starvation diets isn't the healthy way to go about it. OK here's the deal, That "I only have sweets and junk one or two times a week", Hmmmmm, not good! OK, you like Ice Cream, but it's not good for a diet and there are other substitutes, like frozen yogurt!!!! It's amazing how it can fool you, try it instead of the Ice cream, All full milk products have to go, Use low fat milk and milk products, eat yogurt, ice milk. choose low calorie foods! Junk food that is in like say "a bag" with salt and oil nope, gotta go, you can't eat chips, cookies cakes, crackers, processed meats, OR your plans of losing weight won't work! For at least 1 month No sweets, sugars, no seconds. No fatty meals, no fast foods, and drink tons of water, no colas, no sweet drinks, check out nutritional labels, if sugar or especially High Frutose Corn syrup is the main ingredients, don't do it!!! Keep exercising, walking and make better choices for you and your body. To lose weight, you need to create a caloric deficit by reducing your calories slightly, like if your eating 2000 calories per day, try 1500, whatever feels comfortable to you, just lower your intake, If your eating more calories then your expending you will not lose weight, no matter what foods or combinations you eat. Never drop below 1200 calories per day, you won't be getting the proper nutrition, even with vitamin supplements. Record for a couple of days what you actually eat, (don't cheat),, how much , and look to see where changes are needed. Hope this help you a bit, don't give up!
