Am I exercising enough to lose weight?

I"m trying very hard to lose weight, this is the first time I have really set my mind to it and been this confident about it. However, I am wondering if I am exercising enough.

I eat around 1000 calories a day. I have heard (and this makes sense, but I'm still confused), that to lose weight calories out must exceed calories in. Just like to maintain weight calories in must equal calories out.

I have been using the treadmill, running at intervals, walking mostly at 3.9 mph for 45 minutes. When all is said and done, I have lost about 400 calories. Does this mean that I need to stay on the treadmill for almost 3x the amount I am right now to lose weight?????
I hope not.

Help!

Running is a good exercise to loose weight. Run for 3 kilometers everyday after drinking hot water. It will decrease fats in your body.
