What is an appropriate gift for a wedding in Stevensville, MD

We are from NYC/ LI area where Weddings are quite extravaggant. There are 4 of us invited to a wedding in a small town in Maryland and I can tell by the invitation that it's nothing like the weddings that we've been to . Much more low key. What is an appropriate wedding gift- Money? How much? Something off the registry? (All the gifts are smaller, inexpensive more like shower gifts) Please some advice.

What can you afford ? money is never a bad thing. How much would you give to the same level of family or friend in your area and give the same amount,

I always go for buying an item off the registry.
After all, those are the things they picked out for people to buy for them as gifts...that way I never go wrong.

Many things go into this decision: what is your relationship, what can you actually afford based on that relationship.... So many times we over emphasize what is spent. A gift is something from you to this person and can be colored by many different things. As said before money is always appreciated. If you do not know the couple very well go for the registery, if you do try to find something that reflects your relationship. When I was in College I had a close friend get married, but I was broke. I modified a quote and had a friend paint some flowers on the matting, and then framed it. It cost me 15.00, but still hangs on their living room wall today.

Personally, I think the gift has nothing to do with how formal or extravagant the event is. Give from the heart.
