Problem with addressing a wedding invitation

Asked Jan 14, 2011, 01:25 PM — 2 Answers
I am divorced with a daughter and married a widower with three children. My daughter and step son are now to be married. I wonder how to address the invitations as my x husband still has contact with my daughter.

I would just do something like:

The honor of your company is requested at the marriage of Alice Cunningham,
Daughter of Mary Smith and David Cunningham,
To David Jones,
Son of Richard and Kate Jones".

As another option if both of the bride's parents and their spouses are all hosts of the event:

David and Mary Tate, and James and Lisa Sullivan request the honor of your presence at the marriage of our daughter,
Carrie Anne Sullivan to
David Michael Allen,
Son of Mary and David Allen, Sr."

Or simpler yet,

"Along with our families, Carrie Anne Sullivan and David Michael Smith request the pleasure of your company as we join in holy matrimony on April 17, 2011...."

My parents were long divorced and my dad passed, so we used "Along with our families..." It was lovely and no one had a single complaint
