my friend's daughter needs an eye exam and is worried

My friend's daughter is very worried because her eye muscles have been twitching. It's almost like a little facial tic or something. It's only on the left side. She has no vision problems that she knows of and she is 15. Her mom won't have insurance on the kids until January. She just started a new job and her coverage doesn't kick in till then. Her daughter has no headaches or vison complaints, only the twitching muscles under her eye. Will she be ok waiting until January or should my friend take her to the doctor now? I'd pay for the exam if I had the money, but I don't. My friend is pretty broke until Christmas. Should she take her daughter to the free clinic for this? Could it just be tired muscles/eyes from her studying for her finals a lot recently?

It sounds like the girl has a nervous tic. She needs to try to relax and stay away from conflict and stress so that it will go away. Perhaps, she can talk to someone and let out her feelings?

That's kind of what I was thinking too. She is a straight A student but she worries so much about her finals. I think she needs to relax about it a little. She is a smart girl and will do just fine on them

Looking it up I found a couple places that say too much caffeine and fatigue can contribute to eye twitching. It can also be a symptom of a vitamin deficiency but I forget what ones.

Ok I know this is not a funny matter or one to be taken lightly but my mother always gave us kids laxative when our eyes would twitch. She said we were constipated...I don't remember if I was or not. Anyway unless it's more than just an annoyance or there are other health issues I don't think it will hurt to wait till she has insurance. If she is really concerned though she could take her to the ER and pay out of her pocket when she can or she could try to qualify for medicade.

Eye twitches are most commonly caused by nervousness, stress and the one that was not mentioned, lack of sleep...

Sometimes muscles twitch when the person has a potassium deficiency. There are many foods high in potassium other than bananas. Kiwi, tomato, potato, apricot, peach, orange and others. It wouldn't hurt for her to increase her potassium levels. In healthy people, excess is excreted in urine.

ChihuahuaMomma agrees: This is true, but also seek a professional to see just what the problem is.
