Call every social services you can find in your area: Catholic Social Services, Lutheran Social Services, etc... If they cannot help you, they can probably direct you to who can.

Also, check with local churches. In my area the local churches collect unused prescription glasses. Where they take them to be used, I don't know, but if you call a couple big ones they may collect them - and be able to direct you to where to go to or who to call about getting in the program that gives them out.

Hi, Shelia,
Do you have a Lions Club in your local area; town/city?
The Lions Club is very active in glasses for diabetics, worldwide. Call the Lions Club, and they could possibly help you, or lead you to who can.
I do wish you the best.

Yes I will agree with Fred, the Lions Club is most likely the best place.

But also talk to the social worker in your area, they normally know other private sourses of help if availalbe. Often your local church may help also

There is an organization called New Eyes for the Needy that can help. They can actually get you new eye glasses from your optometrist or ophtalmologist.

You need to have a recent eye exam -which you may get for free at several health services organizations -but afterwards you request an application from New Eyes for teh Needy, they send you a voucher and then you take that to the optometrist. The voucher serves as payment. He gives you the glasses and collects payment from New Eyes for the Needy.

They work with everyone: adults and children. The voucher will cover the cost of a basic pair of eyeglasses. Nothing fancy.

I sincerely hope that helps.

L.

Try your local health department, sometimes they have an eye doctor that works for them.

The same way you do it everywhere else, please read similar topics when posting on them asking the same question.

Contact your local Lion's Club and social services office.
