You could check it out at the Portuguese Consulate out there - BUT - .... I think that you would be in the same situation as Brazilians - who - to get a Portuguese passport today, must have documentary evidence of at least Grandparents being born in Portugal.
Before Portugal joined the EEC (European Union) I seem to remeber their government giving a certain time to the people of the ex-colonies to apply for passports - this is sadly long past.
