    Passports
There is a lot of discussion on the topic of needing a passport to enter
Into Canada next year (2007). Will it be necessary for american truck
Drivers entering into Canada to have a passport?

I have heard that Canadian as well as American governments are going to require passports. Personally I think it is a cash grab. We (Canadians) for an adult passport pay $85.00 and they are only good for approximately 4 1/2 years before we have to renew them. I recently went to Michigan for a holiday. We showed our passports at the border and had no problems. By the way Michigan is a beautiful state.

Crossing to Canada/USA does NOT require a passport at this time.

As of Jan 1, 2007, you will need a passport for all AIR and SEA travel.

As of Jan 1, 2008, you will need a passport for all LAND crossings. (this might be extended until 2009 though, there is currently a bill in the US Congress to extend the deadline, it has yet to be passed though)

Therefore, as a truck driver (by land), you will NOT need a passport until January 1, 2008.
