L1 visa

Hi there!
I entered the US with my husband in january 2005 with a J1/J2 visa valid for only 18 months and it will be time soon to think of getting a new one.
We are now thinking of the L1, that could give me the possibility to get a work permit. The only problem is that when we check the uscis.org, they say :
...an alien who, within 3 years preceding the time of his application for admission into the United States, has been employed continuously for one year by a firm or corporation or other legal entity or an affiliate or subsidiary thereof.
He worked for the hearquarter in France for 10 months and then he has been transfered to a subsidiary in the US but he is still under a french contract (VIE).
Do you think the french contract in the US might count and work to qualify for the L1 visa?
thank you!
