Did that go into effect to need a passport to go to Canada this year? We want to go up this summer?

NO, If you are coming from the States of America You do not need a passport. They are still in discussions but nothing is finalized. I think 2008 it could be possible but not now. Enjoy your travels to Canada.

As of Dec 31, 2006, you will need a passport to travel via air or sea.

As of Dec 31, 2007, you will need a passport to travel via ground.

This summer, being Summer 2006, you do NOT need a passport. You will just need photo id and perhaps proof of citizenship.

Thanks. I have heard different reports and I didn't know what to think. I thought it was 2007 but I wasn't sure. So we are making a good trip going up this year instead of waiting till next year.

If you plan to take a trip to Canada in 2007 by driving across the border, you don't need a passport.
