PS3 HardDisk Installation

I just bought the PS3 and already have a 320GB 7200rpm SATA drive that will work on the system. I have not even turned on the system yet, not even once. Should I go ahead and install the new HD before trning the PS3 on for the first time. Would that make any difference.

Just curious.....will I skip any system back process...or is there something in htat HD that I might need.
