What's the right distance from home?

I am a junior in high school right now and my parents are stressing me to look at more and more colleges. When I look the colleges, I usually look at the colleges farther away than my parents would like. I want to be independent and live in an urban area somewhere away from my parents but they aren't too happy with what I want. What should I do? Convince my parents to let me go far away for college(I want to go to BU which is about a 4 hr plane ride)? Or stay in-state for a couple of years?
I don't even know if I'm ready to go that far away from my parents... I think... I don't know

Help!

My niece goes to college an hour away from her parent's house.

It works really well for all involved.

It's close enough for visits( both sides), yet far enough away to be considered "independent".

Good luck at school.

well unless you are counting on mom and dad to pay the bill, you will be a "adult?" and free to go where you want.

If you are expecting and wanting mom and dad to pay the bill for college, their wishes should be very important.
