So I'm really confused. I want to do a bachelor's program in international relations. I was thinking about doing 2 years community college and then transferring. Does the community college have to have that program for me to transfer and continue it somewhere else? Or can I start it in the middle of college? I mean a bachelor's is 4 year program right? HELP

You should be able to transfer without having spent the first two years immersed in international relations, biut you want to build a resume of doing well in closely related subjects. Be sure to take classes in areas marginally related to international relations for those first two years - such as history, foreign relations and political science - along with basic studies in sciences, language, economics, and literature. When you transfer you will not be too far behind the kids who spent their first two years in the program, although you will likely have a bit of catch up in the program's core curriculum.

The first two years of a four-year college or university are spent taking basic courses or more of the same stuff from high school -- higher levels of English, science, or math. By junior year, a student declares a major.

If the student wants to become a psychiatrist, he would probably take basic courses in psych, such as early childhood development, abnormal psych, geriatric psych, etc. during the first two years. If a student wants to become a microbiologist, he will take basic biology courses the first two years of college. If a student wants to eventually major in international relations, he will take basic courses in psych, soc, a language (continuation from high school?), possibly geography -- whatever will help him later in an international relations career.

The final two years of college are devoted to the major. A community college beginning (two years) with a transfer to a four-year college for the final two years will not mess this up in any way.
