removing riding mower blade

I am unable to remove my mower blade on my craftsman riding mower LT1000.
I removed the top nut but I am unsure if I knock down the shaft with a hammer or take it off another way please help so I can sharpen my mower blades.
Thank you
mike

if you took off the top nut, put it back on. to remove the blade you will remove the nut on the bottom side of the blade.

if you have no way to get the unit up high enough and safely enough to get an impact wrench underneath, use a block of wood to wedge between the blade and mower deck housing to "hold" the blade while you loosen the nut.

On most of the "smaller" yard equipment the old rule of thumb, "Righty tighty, Lefty loosey" does apply. The bolt may just be seized a little. The bolts tend to tighten up more the longer they are in use. Secure the blade tightly and next time perhaps you will better understand what you are doing and it will go better for you.
