Why would you need to take the pulley off the engine? Anyway, just take a little rope and put it down the spark plug hole/s to lock the engine in place.

On my MTD you have to drop the engine pulley to get to the Tran pulley that is located above it on the same shaft. I am replacing the drive belt.

Thanks

Ah, well its just a bolt way up the hole there, just use a little rope down the plug holes to lock the engine.
