rear tines do not engage

I have a 2005 yard machines (MTD) rear tine tiller that the rear tines do not engage.
There is a part called a SHIFT ASSEMBLY that has two stubs on it to lift gears into place when I shift into rear, forward. tines. In the last 2 years I have replaced this part 3 times because the stubs have worn out at a cost of 45 each. I run it for 15 minutes and then the tines quit because this part is worn out again.everything else looks fine.
ANY HELP
MODEL #410 THRU 420.
THANKYOU
