Problem with spindle on MTD 42" mower
I have a bent spindle on my 600 series Yard Machine. It is not hard to get to but I have never taken one apart before. Can I just swap the spindle out for a new one and just re-pack the bearings? I believe the housing is OK, just the spindle is bent. What do I need to look for to make this operation go smoothly? Thanks again!

The blade spindle? Check the prices... compare the rebuild effort (if the rest is good) with what a new ready to drop in one is... most go for the new one, new bearings, new jackshaft...

It is the blade spindle on the right side of the deck, nearest to the chute. Is it just a simple task of taking the thing apart, replacing the bent spindle and install new bearings? What is the jackshaft? Thanks again!

My son has an old Lawn Chief riding mower that he purchased used. I finally got it started, but had to do so by shorting out the solenoid with a screwdriver to get it to turn over. Are any manuals available for these lawn mowers? The other idea I had was to put in a heavy duty push button...

"Minor" starter problem [ 2 Answers ]

A few days ago, when I went to a shop to get my compression measured (on a Civic '90 DX), the guys told me my starter is spinning a bit too slow. On a side note, it takes at least 4-5 rotates to start the engine... something like "cg-cg-cg-cg-WOOOM". Now I'm wondering if this is something I could...
